Company History

The success story of CIM GmbH and its founder, Dipl.-Ing. Fritz Mayr, began more than 20 years ago. In 1985, Mayr wrote the warehouse management program PROLAG® in C. The first installations utilised the Unify database system and could already boast an interface to control conveyors and Megamat Paternosters.

PROLAG® has been controlling automatic warehouses since 1988. The following year, CIM engineers developed a picking system and introduced the ability to control certain PROLAG® processes via a wireless data interface.

PROLAG® for Windows

A further milestone in the history of CIM GmbH was reached in 1993 with the release of PROLAG® for Windows. In 1998, CIM became a SAP-certified partner, ensuring smooth interaction with SAP/R3 systems.

PROLAG®World

A revolution occurred in 1999 as the PROLAG® software was redesigned and implemented in Java, an object-oriented programming language. This not only introduced hardware independence but also the ability to run in a browser and a simplified release management capability. PROLAG®World was born in 2001 and saw its first installation in a distribution centre owned by Keller & Kalmbach, a screw and tool wholesaler. The warehouse went successfully into operation at the beginning of 2002. This was then followed by further PROLAG®World installations.

Significant new functionality was added in 2003 as PROLAG®World gained, for example, warehouse controlling, billing and client administration modules. The software received an integrated, certified IDOC interface, seamlessly adding logistics functionality to SAP systems. The following year saw the release of PROLAG®World 1.5. Able to serve both as a hosting system and as an application for carriers and logistics service providers, the new version contained new modules to provide more efficient and effective material flow. This included, for example, modules for hazardous goods and packing stations; a package service manager; functionality for block, compact, flow and drive-in storage; and an Excel interface.

A Complete Solution

With the release of PROLAG®World 2.1 in 2007, CIM GmbH brought a complete WMS solution onto the market. Alongside the existing support for owner and client administration and a shipping system, this release extended the functionality of the controlling, monitoring, billing and customs modules. A particular highlight is the mobile I-Point, part of the priority-led picking system. The WMS has been validated on several occasions by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics.

The Secret of Our Success

CIM’s success can be traced back to the success of its installations and to the high level of customer service. Customers stay loyal to CIM. When PROLAG® was replaced with the modern PROLAG®World WMS, many long-time customers chose to upgrade to the upgradeable and extensible new system. Over the last 20 years, CIM has grown from a small three-person start-up to a company of 40 employees. Our success is due to the success of our customers.
